How do I connect to SmartThings?

Set up your SmartThings Hub, SmartThings Wifi, or Connect Home Take the first step towards total home connectivity by setting up your SmartThings hub, SmartThings Wifi hub, or Connect Home. Once it’s set up, the SmartThings hub will instantly connect to different sensors, locks, light switches, outlets, thermostats, and other compatible devices in your home.

On the other hand, SmartThings Wifi or Connect Home will give you fast and reliable internet so your smart home will run quickly and smoothly. No matter which one you are setting up, the process is pretty similar and, not to mention, very easy. Note: It is not recommended to add a SmartThings Hub to a location with an existing hub.

When setting up your smart home, the first thing you should do is add your SmartThings Hub. Then, you’ll be ready to connect all your smart home devices. Before you start, make sure you download the SmartThings app from the or the on iOS devices.

Navigate to and open the SmartThings app, tap the Devices tab, and then tap Add (the plus sign). Tap Add device, Tap the By brand tab, tap Samsung, and then tap Smart Home Hub, Tap SmartThings Hub 2018 (IM6001-V3P), Or, if your Hub has a Welcome Code, like a SmartThings hub v2, tap SmartThings Hub 2015 (STH-ETH & Others), To complete the setup, follow the on-screen instructions on your phone. First, make sure to download the SmartThings app from the or on iOS devices.

Connect the SmartThings Wifi hub to your modem. Plug one end of the included Ethernet cable into the IN port on the hub. Then, plug the other end to the LAN port on the modem. Next, plug the AC/DC adapter into the DC port on the hub and plug it into a wall outlet or power strip. Make sure to use only Samsung-approved adapters. SmartThings Wifi will turn on and the indicator light will flash green. Now, open the SmartThings app on your phone. The hub should be detected automatically. If SmartThings Wifi isn’t automatically detected, make sure you are within 15 feet of the hub, and then manually add the hub from the SmartThings app. Tap the Devices tab, and then tap the Home icon. Select your desired location for the hub, then tap Add (the plus sign), and then tap Add device, Tap the By brand tab, then tap Samsung, and then tap Smart Home Hub, Select Samsung SmartThings Wifi, and then tap Start, You can choose to set up a new Wi-Fi network, or you can extend an existing network. Tap OK, and then tap Next, Connect the hub’s power cable, tap Next, and then wait until the hub’s indicator light blinks red and green. Tap Next to finish.

If you cannot successfully set up SmartThings Wifi, you will see an option to set your IP address manually. Some homes, hotels, or offices use a static IP address that never changes, unlike most devices that use dynamic IPs, which change constantly. You will need to contact the network administrator and request your IP and WAN settings. If your installation is not going smoothly or your hub seems slow, you can try resetting it. Most of the time, you can use a paper clip or SIM card tool to push the Reset button on the hub itself. Can I control Alexa with SmartThings?

Before you can have Google Assistant control your SmartThings devices, you need to set up Google Assistant in general.

On your phone, open Settings, and then search for and select Voice Match, To turn on Voice Match, tap Get Started under Hey Google. Tap Next, and then tap I Agree, View the on-screen instructions, and then tap Continue, Now, if you say “Hey Google” even if your screen is off, you can access your Assistant. To turn off Voice Match, simply tap the switch next to it.

To begin your Google smart home journey, you’ll need to link the SmartThings app and Google Assistant together. Once linked, Google Assistant will be able to control any permitted SmartThings devices.

On your phone, touch and hold Home to launch Google Assistant. Then, swipe up to open the dashboard. Tap the Options icon (your account picture), and then swipe to and tap Devices, Tap Link a device, and then search for and select SmartThings, Next, sign into your Samsung account. Tap the drop-down menu, and select your desired location for Google Assistant to connect to (i.e. Home, Office, etc.). Tap Authorize, All of your connected devices in SmartThings should link up to your Google Assistant. Now, test it out to see if it works. Touch and hold Home to launch Google Assistant, and then say a command. For example, you could say “Turn off the Smart Plug.” Note: Google Assistant will only be able to control the devices that are registered to the SmartThings location you choose.

If you don’t want Google Assistant to control all of your connected devices, you can edit which devices it can access.

Navigate to and open the SmartThings app. Tap Menu (the three horizontal lines), tap the Settings icon in the top right, and then tap Connected services, Tap Google, and then tap the switch next to “Allow Google Assistant to access all devices, Scenes, and Routines.” Select and deselect the devices you want Google Assistant to access. When you’re finished, tap Done,

You can remove Google from SmartThings at any time if you’re no longer using it.

Open the SmartThings app, and tap the Menu tab (the three horizontal lines). Then, tap the Settings icon in the top right, and tap Linked services, Next, tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Delete, Tap the red minus sign next to Google, and then tap Delete to confirm.

The SmartThings app works with Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Amazon Tap smart speakers. Alexa can be used to control light bulbs, on/off switches, dimmer switches, thermostats, locks, and Routines configured with SmartThings. Alexa can also check the status of motion and contact sensors. But first, you’ll need to connect the Alexa app to SmartThings.

Open the Alexa app; if needed, verify your account and allow the different persmissions. Tap the Devices tab, and then swipe to and tap YOUR SMART HOME SKILLS, Tap ENABLE SMART HOME SKILLS, and then tap the Search icon in the top right. Next, search for and select SmartThings, and then tap ENABLE TO USE, Log in and authorize SmartThings using your Samsung or SmartThings account. Then, tap AUTHORIZE, Once authorized, you can tap CLOSE to begin the device discovery process. Read the next section to learn how to have Alexa discover compatible devices.

The Alexa app will automatically discover devices that are set up in your home or office.

Tap DISCOVER DEVICES after authorizing your Location, and then wait for the device discovery process to be complete. This can take up to 45 seconds. Discover Devices will also discover your scenes and routines. When the discovery process is finished, tap NEXT, Select your desired device from the list, tap SET UP DEVICE, and then tap CONTINUE, Repeat these steps to add other discovered devices. Once you’ve added the available devices, they’ll appear under the Device tab in the Alexa app. If the Alexa app does not start discovering devices, you will need to manually add the devices. In the Devices tab, tap Add (the plus sign) in the top right, and then tap Add Device, Search for or select the device you want to add, and then tap SmartThings, Finally, tap DISCOVER DEVICES and wait for the device discovery process to complete. Once everything is registered, you can use the Alexa app to automate devices, scenes, and routines by tapping the name or icon of your desired option.

Note: You cannot select individual SmartThings ADT, routines, or scenes. You can only choose all or no SmartThings ADT, routines, and scenes. If needed, you can add or remove devices in the Alexa app after the initial setup.

Navigate to and open the SmartThings app. Tap Menu (the three horizontal lines), tap the Settings icon in the top right, and then tap Connected services, Tap Amazon Alexa, and then tap the switch next to “Allow Alexa to access all devices, Scenes, and Routines.” Select and deselect the devices you want Alexa to access. When you’re done, tap Next, and then tap Done,

When a device’s access is removed, Alexa will automatically refresh the list of accessible devices within two hours. However, prompting the discovery will refresh the list immediately. To do this, say ” Alexa, discover devices,” Wait for Alexa to confirm that the discovery is complete (up to 45 seconds), and then tap Done,

Open the SmartThings app, and then tap the Menu tab (the three horizontal lines). Then, tap the Settings icon in the top right, and tap Linked services, Next, tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Delete, Tap the red minus sign next to Amazon Alexa, and then tap Delete to confirm.

Does SmartThings not need a hub anymore? Seriously confused When i goto and watch the promotions, read the Getting Started () it never mentions buying a hub is the hub obsolete now? You only need a hub if you want to use a zigbee or Zwave device. If you are only going to use Wi-Fi devices or devices with their own bridge, or a Samsung smart television, or smart appliance, you don’t need a hub.

• I believe but could be wrong that upcoming Matter devices will not need a ST hub if they are WiFi based or are Thread based and you have a Thread Boarder Router.
• ST v3 & Aeotec hubs are boarder routers in addition to some Echo, Google Nest, and Apple Mini Home pod devices.
• Works with ST hubs are currently manufactured by Aeotec, not SmartThings.
